THE SPIRIT #1 - PAGE 5 by dan-sch THE SPIRIT #1 - PAGE 5 by dan-sch
The Westfield Comics Blog posted a couple new pages from Will Eisner's The Spirit #1, written by Matt Wagner, drawn by me and colored by Brennan Wagner. Since they're out in the wild now, I thought I'd throw out the inks for one of them for your review. This is part of a flashback depicting the origin of the Spirit; Criminologist Denny Colt confronts the notorious Doctor Cobra and gets a facefull of deadly chemicals for his trouble. He's dead. Dead and buried. Really. Ask anyone.

It's funny. A quarter century later, a different Central City lawman would also find himself doused in chemicals that made him something new and impossible. But Denny Colt got dead. The other guy got quick.

How am I doing so far?

Brilliant recap of an origin that still works 75 years later.

Love the panel break/bleed from 3 to 4.

A bit somber, but I trust that's to properly set the mood in relation to the last panel's funeral service. Don't forget the fun, Wagner!

July can't come quick enough!

Gotta love those classic Schkade lines. Really like the spill over from panel three to four!

Thanks! I'm having fun with that kind of thing. Not too much fun, though... that stuff can get old real quick.
