Ouch. I really think superheroes are at their most interesting when they're having the crap beaten out of them -- provided they get back up again, natch. This one, and the next one, are in a slightly sketchier style, just because it's faster and easier for me. A busy beaver am I.
Incidentally, I discovered that the best music for writing the Mime is, oddly, the Goo Goo Dolls. The combination of rock guitar, slightly punk beats, and angst-ridden vocals seem to jam really well with our kickass-yes-sensitive heroine. "Bulletproof", "Think About Me", and their cover of "I Don't Want to Know" (wherein they play with a lyrics a bit, radically changing the feeling of the song) were the songs that featured most prominently on this one. Not relevant, just sort of interesting.
Featured here are 's Virtus, 's Shaktu, and Zerkov's trophy, the mask of Jamaican Spider. An earlier draft had the Mime taking the mask back for the heroes, but I decided against it. Be kind of a tip-off to the bad guys, wouldn't it?
Wonderful stuff, Dan. I adore your black and whites but this is actually a nice refreshing change. I rather like the scritchy scratchy lines in the shading.
I can't help but feel Mime is going to pass out soon. She's made from strong stuff is our Trisha. How much longer can she keep this up? Even after a carefully executed break fall like that, from such a height it's got to hurt like hell.
Great page, particularly love the panel with JS's mask. Awesome storytelling. You rock...and then you rock a little bit more.
It gives textures where you'd usually have black fill, it's a nice change of pace. Where there would normally be no information, there's a ton. Cool change-up.
As for the box, that's no big artistic planning on my part -- I'd drawn the panels all wonky on one side and it looked like the page was going to fall over, so I put that box there to even it out. Not so much ingenuity as on-the-spot repairs!

As for our girl's fortitude, she really is a trooper... but her tank is running dry. Drama!

Can't help but wonder how long the Mime will be able to keep this up, with people lurking around every corner and a gaping wound in her side.
And allow me to congratulate you on being the first artist (including myself) to get Mr. Sanders pubescent facial hair just right.
Chapter 3 is wrapping up nicely. Can hardly wait to see what Chapter 4 will bring for us all.
