DW- Tragedy at the Sideshow by dan-sch DW- Tragedy at the Sideshow by dan-sch

Sort of an existence proof for the hot alchemy that is our game-changing collaboration, JD and I whipped up this short to touch some hearts and minds. The resulting tale is one that can be enjoyed by Doctor Who fans, lovers of cute aliens, and potential publishers alike!

Big points for JD -- I made him draw 200% more hands than you conventional find in a comic. I also gave him that cute alien chica to design, so I figure we're even.

And for those still miffed about the Fowl ending, a journal on the subject is soon to follow.

that is a brilliant Doctor Who comic. I personally haven't been able to see any of the episode with the 11th so far, but I hear good things.

They're probably all true. Smith's really nailing it, near as I can reckon.

Man, don't listen to all the n00bs out there hating on you for Fowl-quits. Like the good doctor in question, each new incarnation will be different than the last, and I can appreciate an intimate creative retreat with a creation that has become a very part of you that you may love dearly for what he's given you, but you respect too much to do disservice to.

I'm looking forward to buying the Avery graphic novel and setting it on my bookshelf where it belongs: somewhere between my hard-boiled noir section, my existential novellas, and time-honored sequential narratives like "A Contract with God" or "Road to Perdition". All of these of course underneath a unique picture of the Fowl and Det. Cross drawn on card-stock as a thank you for purchasing "Ex Libris" and "On the Concrete Mat".

If whatever criticism received divines anything in the animus of Dan Schkade, let it be that your characters are written so personally, humbly, and honestly that they become a part of us all in such a way as to inspire anger and confusion at their abrupt departure. You've written Fowl and Co. to be ours as much as it is yours, so do not be disheartened by a few harsh words.

Regardless, no matter how many "I hate you Dan" messages you've gotten, I'd wager every one of those readers will be back to see what you're cooking next.

My apologies, I've let my words get away from me again. I don't think you were looking for this kind of message or that your reaction to Fowl-fanbase uproar required it. You don't need me to tell you to keep on, keeping on, I'm just the type who says it anyway.

All the best :)

How I passed over a five-carat comment like this, I'll never know...

A much appreciated sentiment, friend of mine. To find yourself and your motives perceived exactly as you'd wish them to be is a rare treat, and one that warms me from the basin of my genius to the edges of my toenails.

As for any harsh words, I know they come form a good place. In fact, it most of the negativity has come from my younger readers, which I actually look on kind of fondly. As you say, I take it as proof I did something that mattered to people, even if it wasn't cutting it for me anymore.

We'll be posting six pages from the first chapter of Avery sometime soon -- keep an eye out for that, if only to see what all the fuss has been about.

Thanks again for that flattering comment. That sort of thing is why I do this, after all. That and money. But money gets spent.

I ought to clarify that I read your latest journal and comments over on Cranky Octopus to your final Fowl pages before submitting this here. Mea culpa for the confusion :)

I've seen like 1 Dr Who episode so I can't really enjoy this like a Dr Who fan would... but it was a nice comic anyways. those Spider-goons were pretty neat.

Ain't they just? I may have come up with the idea for them, but JD really killed it on the designs.

Mission accomplished -- as long as it hurt as in "hurt so good, come on baby, make it hurt so good, sometimes love don't feel like it should, so make it hurt so good."

I've started to taken a liking to Doctor Who. Though I prefer the 10th Doctor instead of the 11th.

That's your prerogative, naturally. Me, I like the more alien Docs... the fourth, the seventh, and now this fellow. He's also got one of the best looks, with the whole combat-professor thing going on. That was something that took me out of Tennant's doctor, a bit... his outfit was too human for me. You'd actually bumb into someone dressed like him on the street. Well, a street in San Francisco, maybe.

That said, the Impossible Planet / Satan Pit was some sick television.

Personally, I haven't seen any of the shows involving the 4th and 7th doctor. I've only been introduced to the 9th, 10th, and 11th Doctor.
